Austin band Being Dead put out one of my favorite albums of 2024 with EELS. The garage rock band are coming to Reverb Lounge tonight and if their live shows are as fun as their albums-this will be a blast. Possibly the sleeper must see show of the month.

I just discovered New Orthodox this morning, so bear with me on any mistakes or timeline gaps—I spent the morning going down the rabbit hole.

This is Nicholas Merz, who, from what I can tell, has released albums under his own name that sound quite different from this project. Still off the beaten path, but more traditionally musical, with a slight Scott Walker vibe. He’s also a pedal steel player though not in the traditional sense one might think of.

New Orthodox is highly experimental, intense, and is a commentary on much of what’s happening in America. He covers Lou Reed’s “Waves of Fear” from The Blue Mask album, if that gives you a vibe. The album was one of the last recorded by Steve Albini before his passing.

New Orthodox is playing at Pageturners Lounge tonight with Mesa Buoy.

Electronic/vaporwave artist George Clanton will be at Waiting Room tonight. Here is the Omaha tie. His first band he ever saw live was 311, and he has since collaborated with Nick Hexum on a full album. His current album Fauxllennium is a collab with TV Girl, who has been having a moment thank to TikTok. I expect to see a line in Benson tonight.

For almost 40 years thrash band Deceased has been bringing it to stages around the world. The band bring their show to 1867 this evening playing songs off their 2024 album Children of the Morgue.

Former Jake E Lee vocalist Michael Thomas Beck and Grammy Nominated guitarist Conrad Varela make up part of rock band Escape The Hive and they will be at B-Side Bar in Council Bluffs this evening with Twisted Chrome.
