Sold Out Shows, Four Shows In The Big Rooms, Festivals Continue And More!
Saturday and Sunday Live Music Lineup
I had a great time at GRRRL Camp yesterday. Everything looked good, from the staging to the sound to the set-up for the festival. The vibe was just having fun; there were lots of cool vendors and food, and the music delivered. Day two happens Saturday starting at 1 PM at Falconwood Park, and you will have Girl Ray, Indigo De Souza, Rosali, Hurray For The Riff Raff, and more! They allow umbrellas, chairs, and what not, but there are inside buildings and bathrooms. There is no reason not to go.
It is also Day two of the Four Winds Festival at the Waiting Room and Reverb Lounge, and tonight they have Otis Julius, C10, Jay Influential, C10, Alyeska, Feel Good, and more. I talked a little more about both festivals yesterday, which you can read HERE The festival continues on Sunday with King Iso, Taebo Tha Truth, Matt Phoenix, and more.
Huge alt-rock band Creed is back. There has been a revival of sorts for the band, which started with the Texas Rangers baseball team using the band's music to amp them up and motivate them to win games. The press picked up on this, and Creed became a story again. The band is performing with Finger Eleven. The show at Stir Cove doesn’t list an official sell-out yet, but looking at the tickets, they are in verified re-sale mode on Ticketmaster. It should be a packed house.
Other happenings on Saturday include a show of experimental and improvised music at Project Project with Cast Off Form, Kyle Jessen, and Phil Smith. Bird and Byron, who have a really cool modern take on the retro soul sound, are at Slowdown with Valley Street and Carver Jones & The American Dreamers. They are having a memorial event for Nate Dietrich at Down Under Pub with Dr. Webb, Unbroken Chain, and Doom Lagoon. Touring hard rock band Escape the Hive makes their way to Lincoln Saturday at Grays Keg, and you can get your darkwave dancing on at Club Noir at The Verdict Lounge. There are many more Saturday options below.
AJR has hits galore, but their live show is where it is at. I took my nephew to see them at Baxter Arena last time they were through town, and they just do so many fun and innovative musical and visual things on stage. Bring the kids, you will enjoy it too. They are at CHI Center Omaha Sunday night.
Popular rock band Chevelle will be at Steelhouse Omaha on Sunday. I want to point out not to miss opening band Tigercub from England. I caught the band opening for Porno for Pyros earlier this year, and they are a kickass live rock band. I did an interview with the band last year, which you can read HERE.
Striaght No Chaser, an a cappella group that just celebrated 25 years together, will be at The Astro tonight. The group was a college group out of Indiana State who did a funny Christmas video in the 90’s. Well, the viral video age came along years later, and that video popped up and, of course, went viral, and they got back together and just kept doing it. The show Sunday will celebrate the music of the 90's, and they will have a genuine 90’s star in Lisa Loeb along for the ride.
Bowling With Soup will be at Slowdown Sunday night. This show has been SOLD OUT for quite some time. The pop punk band will celebrate thirty years as a band and the twentith anniversary of their album A Hangover You Don’t Deserve, which of course had their massive hit “1985”. I saw them at a festival when that song was just released. Yikes.
Other Sunday happenings include Powder Blue and Mitch Gettman at Bar 39 and The Ragetones from Pueblo Colorado at Duffys. I just checked out a song from them and really dug it.
I will be back tomorrow with a fresh calendar for next week. Make sure to subscribe and have it delivered straight to you.
