Happy Saturday! I hope you got out and saw some live music this week, but if not, there are plenty of options this evening. Top of the list is long running ska, rocksteady, and reggae band The Bishops, celebrating their 29th anniversary at Maloney’s Live in Council Bluffs. This is a star-studded ska and reggae lineup, with Rhythm Collective, Linoma Mashers, and Nice Up joining the celebration. There is a young reggae resurgence happening and tons of big-name bands from that movement coming to town in 2024, but let’s give a little love to the area bands that have been doing this for decades.
They had a sellout at the Benson Theater last night for the Wyrmwood show. Let’s give them two in a row, as soulfusion duo Wakanda One is going to celebrate their catalog to date with a big show featuring a live band. Should be one for the books.
Speaking of soul, Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal will be at B. Bar this evening, and I think it is their first full-band show in Omaha in a bit. Cruz Control joins them.
The Benson block will be going off with two sold-out shows tonight at Waiting Room Lounge and Reverb Lounge. The Waiting Room has Jack & Jack, who are from right here in Omaha, Nebraska. The Westside graduates went on to social media fame with their music, went solo, and are now doing things together again, it looks like. People were queuing up at 7 a.m. this morning, so that looks to be an all-day party out on the sidewalk today. Around the corner at Reverb Lounge is Ryan Caraveo, who does that laid-back rap and r&b thing and has a lot of streams on the old YouTube. His song “Peanut Butter Waffles” got me really hungry this morning.
Lastly, tonight is Queen of the Night-A Tribute to Whitney Houston at Steelhouse Omaha. This looks like quite the spectacle with full band, dancers and all the fun things that go along with it.
