Packed Night-Including A Must See Current Musical Master, A Favorite Songwriter Of Mine, An Ex-Member Of Poison and Mr. Big and Much More
Friday Night Music Lineup
I am traveling right now, so I have missed a lot of great shows already this week and there are two tonight that it is really messing with me to miss. I did get to see Meshell Ndegeocello last night in Iowa City though and that was incredible and a bucket list artist for me. Dig in below and I hope you head out to see one of the many shows this evening. If you want to plan out the rest of the weekend you can do so HERE. If you want to preview the month of October-you can do so HERE. If you want to see what shows went on sale today-HERE is where you do that. And if you need some new music you can find last weeks curated playlist HERE.
I can’t believe I am missing this show. This is one of those shows that people complain about not coming to Omaha. Well, Robert Glasper is playing Omaha at the Holland Center. Five-time Grammy winner. Eleven-time Grammy nominee. The man who played keyboards on Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp A Butterfly. The man who pretty much resurrected soul music, or at the very least neo-soul music, with his Black Radio albums. Not to mention the progressive soul albums he released, such as the incredible Fuck Yo Feelings album. The member of Dinner Party with Terrace Martin, Kamasi Washington, and 9th Wonder. Glasper is an incredible pianist, jazz performer, composer, songwriter, and producer. Someday you will look back and either go, 'Damn, I am glad I went to that show', or 'damn, I should have gone to that show'. Tickets are very reasonably priced, IMO, so you should definitely try to be in that first category.
Shovels and Ropes are the headliners tonight at Waiting Room, and of course the Americana duo are excellent and much loved performers. I want to make sure you are getting there early if you are attending said show. Al Olender is the opener, and you should check her out. She has come through town and played shows at Pageturners a few times, and she is a wonderful songwriter and just such an engaging and charming on stage personality. I think you will enjoy it. The first time I saw her, it was one of those shows where you want to text everyone and tell them right away what they are missing.
Guitarist Richie Kotzen is known for replacing CC in Poison on the Native Tongue album and replacing Paul Gilbert in Mr. Big for the Get Over It album. Richie is a prolific solo artist and collaborator. I am counting 22 solo albums! Then he has albums with Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden (not our congressman), The Winery Dogs with Billy Sheehan and Mike Portnoy and collabs with Glenn Hughes, Gene Simmons and Stanley Clarke (not all together, but that would be interesting). He will be at Barnato this evening.
Other happenings include hard rock band Polaris at The Admiral tonight and deep voiced popular country act Randall King at Slowdown. Anime punk rockers Peelander-Z is at The Sydney tonight and that should be wild. Lorraine-Dietrich is at The Zoo Bar this evening. They are a progressive rock band from Kansas City. I honestly figured it was a female blues singer. Good thing I researched that one. There is even more happening tonight and you can check it out below.
