Clarence Tilton just released the third song off their upcoming album, Queen of the Brawl, which is looking to be quite the affair. The first two tracks featured Marty Stuart and Presley Tucker, respectively, and this one is the band going it alone. The song “Friant” is a beautiful, contemplative road song with frontman Chris Weber and guitarist Paul Novak singing harmony. Written by Chris Weber, he states in the press release that it was about a whirlwind work trip from Omaha to California, where gale-force winds, overturned semis, and flood stage rivers formed the backdrop for a journey of difficult scenarios. Weber found himself captivated by the landscapes around him, including the Friant Dam on the San Joaquin River to the winding path of Historic Route 66. “Friant is a peaceful song about a frantic week,” Weber explains. “It’s about finding those fleeting moments of beauty in the middle of the madness. It’s a song that feels like home, even if it’s a home you’ve never seen.” You can check the song out at all of the usual streaming sites, but HERE is a link to YouTube.
Welcome to the weekend. A few things happening tonight you can look to yesterdays post about. There is a second show for Rathskeller’s grand opening with Wooden Music, a second performance of Wu Man and the Omaha Symphony, and an Omaha show with Moonshroom at B. Bar. If you want more info on those, check that out HERE.
Tomorrow I return with the first new album list, my thoughts on some of them and the first curated playlist of 2025. After a month off, it has been exciting checking out new albums again.
I attended my first of these shows at Project Project finally last month. It’s a very cool and very cozy affair and definitely something you want to be present in every way to absorb. You never know what you are going to hear. Literally. Saturday night is An Evening of Improvised Music at Project Project with Alex Jacobsen, Phill Smith, Stacey Barelos, Kyle Jessen, and Lillian Kay all in various situations.
This weekend you will find an immersive sound and art experience happening at Drips Botanical Elements on Saturday with the recreation of The Understory, which was nominated for an Omaha Entertainment and Arts Award and involves Things I Tell You and David Carney. Three tribute events are happening on Saturday with Up The Irons (Iron Maiden) at Reverb Lounge, Nirvani (Nirvana) at Slowdown, and a live band emo happening at 1867 with When We Were Emo. Carver Jones will be at Bar 39 on Saturday, and I may head there to check him out for my first time. I might just make it a Blackstone weekend and check out some jazz with Juke Butter at The Red Lion Lounge on Sunday.
Here is your full lineup for the weekend-be safe.
