Omaha band The Content has released a new song, “That Old Nothing Feeling,” on the usual streaming situations. HERE is a link to YouTube. I really dig it; it’s a catchy, straight-forward indie pop song that has held up to repeated listens this morning. The band is made up of longtime Omaha musicians Braden Rapp, Ben Stratton, Dave Backhuas, Luke Backhaus, and Wes Graffius. The bands that they have all been in of note around town are too many to list, though some of these guys were in a band many of us loved called Lonely Estates. This is probably closest to that. The band will be performing live on January 18th with Mad Mad Heart and Gerald Lee Jr. at Reverb Lounge. In full disclosure, this is a show that I booked.
It is that time of the year! The 9th Bennie Does Bowie tribute show. David Bowie was born on the 8th of January and left us on the 10th. Ever since his passing, Omaha glam rock tribute band Bennie and The Gents have paid tribute to the genius of Bowie. This will happen at The Waiting Room tonight and is always a must see event.
Rathskeller —the Bier Haus and eatery has survived the construction of Hospital City and is back under new ownership. Food will happen, beer will be consumed, but most importantly for our interests, music will happen. Angie Kriz and the Polkatoons will perform on Friday and Wooden Music will be there on Saturday as part of their grand opening weekend.
We are going to highlight the Omaha Symphony a few times this month, as they have some very fun and interesting things happening in January. First up is Wu Man who has been called the “world’s finest player of the pipa” by the New York Times, and when she did an NPR Tiny Desk concert, Tom Huizenga said, “Wu Man is the Jimi Hendrix of the pipa, the ancient Chinese lute-like instrument. Through blistering runs of plucking and strumming, she brings action-packed scenes of war and tranquil moonlit nights to life with a cinematic array of color and mood.” There will be one performance on Friday and one on Saturday and they are both at the Holland Performing Arts Center.
Moonshoom is a improvisational grassadelic band from Lawrence, Kanas. They are making a trip through nebraska this weekend to perform Friday at The Zoo Bar and Saturday at the B. Bar. The band is currently doing a Kickstarter for their debut album Take A Trip and it looks like it is going well for them.
