Nada Surf, Garage Rock, Blues Guitar Master and New York Synth Wave
Wednesday Live Music Lineup
Happy Wednesday! If you are at the Nada Surf show tonight, make sure to say hi. I will have the May music preview up online here in a bit. It’s going to be a wild month. Next week, I am traveling to see Nick Cave, and in a couple of weeks, I’ll be headed to California for the Cruel World festival. I plan to keep everything on schedule, but if things get a little wonky, that’s why. Plus, there are so many shows happening in May!
We posted the weekly calendar on Monday which you can find HERE
You can find the curated album playlist from last week HERE

Just in case you haven’t followed along. Yes, Nada Surf is the band that did “Popular”, but after that they became known for putting out well crafted indie pop albums to much critical acclaim and a loyal following. I highly recommend digging into their catalog including the new album Moon Mirror, but if you just want to hear “Popular” you will probably get your wish. They are at Waiting Room this evening.
New York synth-pop artist Ronnie Stone will stop by Reverb Lounge tonight with Healing and our own Ex Lover. It took Ronnie nearly a decade to follow up his Motorcycle Yearbook album, but last year, Ride Agai* was released. His sound is a blend of darkwave, club, and techno— all very rooted in the sounds of the past. A few days ago, a remix of “Riding In The Rain,” done by Healing, was released, and they will be joining Ronnie for the show tonight.
This morning, I was listening to a completely different garage rock band called Thighmaster to write this up. The garage rock band Thimastr is the one performing at The Sydney tonight, and honestly, I enjoy this one even more. The Kansas City band released their on-the-nose album Between The Knees and Squeeze in 2020, with song titles like “Suzy Sommers,” “Jane Fonda You,” and “The Good, the Bad, and the Bowflex.” It might sound like novelty music, but it’s not. It’s actually pretty dreamy, hazy, low-fi garage rock. Definitely worth checking out. Magu and Ivory Claws will also perform.
Blues guitarist Chris Cain will be at The Zoo Bar tonight and the Waiting Room tomorrow. The guitarist is a multiple time Blues Music Award nominee and currently touring on his Good Intentions Gone Bad album.
