The legendary Elvis Costello return to Steelhouse Omaha where he played once before. This time Costello will focus on the early songs of his career, which will make many people happy as his beginnings are flawless. His entire catalog is incredible, but the early stuff…yeah. Hayes Carll has long been one of my favorite country and Americana singer-songwriters. I’ve been following him since he was playing back rooms when he came through Omaha. His live shows were the kind where you’d sit people down and explain what’s happening so they’d be ready for the next one. Of course, he established himself and moved to bigger venues over the past two decades. Hayes has a new album coming out on August 8th, and we’ll get to hear those songs on November 16th at Waiting Room Lounge. You can stream his new song, “Progress of Man (Bitcoin & Cattle),” now. Tickets for the show go on sale this Friday—HERE.
The last time we saw Cypress Hill was last year when they performed a super cool show with the Omaha Symphony at Steelhouse Omaha. This time, they are bringing the full-on experience to Stir Cove on August 24th. Minneapolis hip-hop duo Atmosphere will also be on the bill, and for me, that is the more interesting act. However, the most interesting act here is The Pharcyde, whose album Bizarre Ride II is considered one of the best hip-hop albums of all time. Myself and the young people at the store are very psyched about them. Lupe Fiasco will also bring a more modern sound to the proceedings. Tickets go on sale HERE on Friday.
Herb Alpert is 90 years old. Yep, 90! He’s released 49 albums—I know this, because I've got his latest, 50, and I think it’s pretty damn good. Twenty-eight of those albums charted on the Billboard Top 200, and he has sold over 70 million records. He’s won a Tony, eight Grammys, and is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. And you know the bassline in Notorious B.I.G.’s “Hypnotize”? You know it. Herb. He’s rich AF.
Herb started A&M Records, which was huge, and he eventually sold it. His net worth is close to a billion dollars. He doesn’t need to be playing music at 90, but he is—and I’ll be there to watch him do what he loves. You can get tickets for his performance at the Holland Center on October 7th HERE on Friday.
The disco era lives on late this summer as Village People and KC and the Sunshine Band head to Lincoln for a show at Pinewood Bowl Theater on August 8th. I saw KC and the Sunshine Band last year at The Astro, and he still puts on a great show, backed by talented musicians, dancers, and singers. Tickets go on sale Friday HERE
Funk jam band Lettuce will be bringing their show to The Bourbon Theater on August 21st. For more than thirty years, the band has been expanding their sound and establishing themselves as a go-to live attraction. They just released a live album featuring performances with the Colorado Symphony. Tickets for the Bourbon Theater show go on sale this Friday—available HERE.
UK indie pop band Autoheart are coming to Slowdown. The band celebrated the 10th anniversary of their album Punch in 2023, put out a live album last year and have a new song out called “Sad Divide”. Could they have a new album before their November 5th show? We will see. Get tickets HERE on Friday.
It has been a few years since country singer Spencer Crandall put out his album Western. He has been releasing new songs like “Right One” and “Honeymoon Phase”. You can hear them at Barnato on October 2nd. Tickets are on sale HERE.
Nu-metal band Silent Theory will be bringing the rock all the way from Moscow…..Idaho-to Witches Brew on July 15th. Tickets available HERE
80’s pop and ska band The English Beat returns to The Waiting Room on June 24th. When people ask me which band I’ve seen the most (not including local bands), the answer is definitely The English Beat. I’m pretty sure this will be my 20th time seeing them. I saw Dave Wakeling and his band last year in Minneapolis, opening for Adam Ant, and he was in top form that night. He was planning to tour with Adam in England this year, but something must have happened. Still, that gives us another chance to groove and dance with the band. Tickets go on sale HERE this Friday.
I am not really sure who Bilmuri is (oh Bill Murray! I get it), but he puts out a lot of albums. It seems like he was in that band Attack! Attack! and has a sound that is a mix of that emo rock and hard rock, though there seems to be some country in his latest works. He likes to talk about hog cranking-I do know that. He will be The Admiral on October 14th and tickets are on sale HERE on Friday.
English rock band 10CC will be at The Bourbon Theater on September 3rd. They will be playing all of their hits including “I’m Not In Love” and “The Things We Do For Love”. Tickets are on sale Friday HERE
You can catch Lakeview at Stir Cove in a couple weeks with Staind and Breaking Benjamin. They just released a country version of Hinder’s “Lips of an Angel” that I am guessing is for that tour. They will bring their full show to Barnato on July 18th and you can get tickets HERE.
Punk rock icon Laura Jane Grace and band will return to Slowdown on August 2nd. The new album Adventure Club comes out on July 18th. The last show she did at Slowdown was amazing, and I expect this to be non-the-less. Tickets on sale HERE on Friday.
We’re getting a new album this Friday from Samia, one of the best singer-songwriters to emerge in the past decade. While the follow-up to her excellent album *Honey* is exciting, even more so is the fact that she will perform at The Waiting Room on September 29th. Tickets go on sale HERE this Friday.
Indiana jam band Umphrey’s McGee will be at The Admiral on August 15th-tickets are on sale Friday HERE
I do not know much about Iniko, but they released an album called The Awakening in January and they are definitely going for something on a multi platforms with their art. Do a little digging yourself and get tickets HERE for the show on September 27th at The Waiting Room.
Hey! It’s indie pop band Flipturn — they were at Outlandia last summer, and their last show at Slowdown sold out. They have a new album coming out and are heading to a bigger venue, The Admiral. They’ll be joined by Joe P, whom I did an in-store with at Homer’s—really nice guy. Tickets for the show go on sale this Friday HERE.
I don’t know if pop artist Yoke Lore is still touring on his debut album from 2023, or if he has new stuff coming out. We will find out at Waiting Room on June 18th, when he performs. Tickets on sale HERE on Friday.
On August 1st, Ax and the Hatchetmen will be at Slowdown. The Chicago band just put out a single with Albert Hammond Jr. from The Strokes! Tickets are on sale Friday HERE
