Word came out yesterday that singer-songwriter Matthew Sweet suffered a debilitating stroke in Toronto while starting a tour. He was going out and doing a pretty massive run of dates, and will not be able to do that now. His current medical costs, plus the road to recovery and rehab along with losing out on his touring income will put considerable hardship on the artist. Sweet currently lives in Omaha and has for quite some time. The artist had major impact internationally with his 1990 album Girlfriend and then followed that up with many acclaimed albums and a long career of art in various mediums. A Go Fund Me has been set up for a quarter of a million dollars, and it is already well on it’s way there. Donations from Judd Apatow, John Mayer, Peter Buck, Jon Cryer and Ken Jennings are helping to push this fundraiser to it’s goal, but our $10 or what we can donate will also help get him back up on a stage. You can donate HERE.
Kate Nash played Britannica on the Netflix show Glow (she was my favorite), but is also a singer-songwriter who has hundreds of millions of streams. She is touring on her brand new album 9 Sad Symphonies and will be at Slowdown on Wednesday night.
Dirty Honey are a big unsigned band success story and they have played with some of the biggest rock bands out touring right now and have had a couple very successful albums under their belt. See what the hype is about with this classic rock revival band on Wednesday at The Admiral. Tickets on sale HERE on Friday.
Christian singer-songwriter Brandon Lake has been putting out albums for less than a decade, but has achieved a massive amount of success including being a four time Grammy Winner. His 2023 album Coat of Many Colors debuted at number one the Billboard Contemporary Christian chart. You can catch him at Pinnacle Bank Arena on Thursday evening.
OG Strange Music artist Krizz Kaliko will be coming to The Waiting Room on Thursday night. The rapper signed with Strange Music from it’s inception in 1999 only leaving recently to form his own label Ear House Inc. Also on the lineup is Dizzy Wright and Whitney Peyton.
Other interesting happenings include The Medley Band and Scott Severin and Stateleigh Holmes at The Zoo Bar on Wednesday. Then Thursday at the Zoo Bar is Replacements tribute band from Omaha Left of the Dial with Lonely Winters. Also on Thursday is Kris Lager Band performing at an adult event at Durham Museum.
