I could swear Toadies played at Edgefest back in the day, but I am not seeing it. Local H definitely did. Either way you can see both of the 90’s bands are at The Astro on Wednesday. The Toadies just released a new album called The Charmer on May 1st. Local H will be releasing a 30th Anniversary album for As Good As Dead this summer.
Christian rock band Red will celebrate 20 years of the album End of Silence at Bourbon Theater on Tuesday. The band will be doing so without their longtime singer Michael Barnes. They will have a replacement for him as he leaves the band to spend time with his family. Also on the lineup is RA, who are a Bourbon Theater veteran, and Kingdom Collapse, Twist It and Endless from our area have also been added to the lineup.
Blues guitarist Chris Cain will be back in the area this month including Thursday at North Omaha Music and Arts. Get intimate with the multiple‑time Blues Music Award nominee also has a new song with Joe Bonamassa on the recently released B.B. King’s Blues Summit 100 album. He will be at The Zoo Bar on Wednesday.
I do not think anyone will accuse sludgy rock band Baby Gurl from Utah of taking themselves too seriously. Songs like “Smack My Bishop,” “Penis Killer,” and “The Stoopidest Song Ever” will probably never earn them a Grammy, nor will their split EP with one of my favorite band names ever, Gaytheist. They have earned a spot on stage at The Sydney on Tuesday evening.
Terell Stafford is kind of from all over the place, but he is the current Director of Jazz Studies at the Boyer College of Music and Dance at Temple University. He has released around a dozen albums under his name in the past three decades. I am currently listening to 2023’s In Between Two Worlds, which is excellent. You can check out the trumpeter at the first Jazz in June in Lincoln on Tuesday night. The events are free to attend.
You may know Troy Doherty from his roles in Victorious, The Last Ship, and Zoey 102 with Jaimie Lynn Spears. Or you may know him from his debut album ZODIAC that came out last year and he is currently touring on. Either way, you can catch him at Slowdown on Wednesday. FYI, if you are looking him up on streaming, it is just under the name Troy.
I learned something new today. Kaiju metal is metal that involves giant monster from movies like Godzilla. Oxygen Destroyer is kaiju metal and the band is named after a weapon from the 1954 Godzilla movie. The more you know! You can see the band at Reverb Lounge on Wednesday
