Two Album Releases, A Goblin and Classic Pop Aussies
Choices Will Be Made This Evening-Friday Live Music Lineup
Welcome to the weekend! Tonight there are a lot of choices to be made. I personally had to make a very hard choice between four shows. The choice was obvious because of personal connections, but there is a lot I am missing out on this evening. If you haven’t been out to a concert in a while, tonight is a great night to remedy that. If tonight doesn’t work for you and you want to plan something else for the weekend, you can do so with the weekly calendar HERE. Yesterday I put up thirteen new concerts that went on sale this week HERE. Today is new release day, and we will get caught up on today’s releases on Sunday, but you can check out last week's releases, my thoughts on many of them, and the playlist HERE and finally you can listen to me talk about those releases and this weekend's shows HERE.

Area band Midwest Dilemma finally releases their follow up to the acclaimed Timelines & Tragedies album. Justin Lamoureux and crew will release Searching For The Cure For Loneliness at the Benson Theater. Kyle Harvey and Brad Hoshaw will return to Omaha to help them celebrate. There was a time in Omaha when our songwriter scene was very bountiful. It still is, but for people my age and a little younger-that was THE time. When I think back on it now I am very grateful to have been around to see it’s beginnings and growth into what it became. Justin, Kyle, and Brad were core members of that scene, and tonight should have us right back there.
Crowded House are one of those bands I never thought I would see in in our area. And I will not as I will be at another show. The legendary band has a songwriting legacy like few others “Don’t Dream It’s Over”, “Weather With You”, “Something So Wrong” and on and on. Just classic pop music. The Aussies are touring on their latest album Gravity Stairs and you can see them tonight under the stars at The Astro Amphitheater.
Another amazing songwriter that was based in Omaha was Jake Bellows. Bellows band Neva Dinova is back with their first new album in sixteen years, and this one will be released on Saddle Creek Records. Drummer Roger Lewis told me this is the best Neva Dinova album, and I cannot wait to hear it. The album, Canary, officially hits stores and streaming in two weeks. Size Queen are also on the lineup and I saw them this summer at Pet Fest and they great. Get there early to see them.
Mortiis will be at 1867 this evening. The long-running electronic, industrial rock act has been going for over thirty years now. It’s pretty cool to see the Norwegian act in an intimate venue such as 1867. There are different “eras” of Mortiis, much like Taylor Swift, and you can see which one is represented this tonight.
Also happening tonight is a performance with the Omaha Symphony at The Riverfront. That is a part of the One Community Cultural Festival. The Damones are doing a free show at Granary Green in Ralston. Happy Birthday, Tony Bazis! Tennessee Jet is at Bucks Bar and Grill Friday night, and that show is very close to sold out. There is a very cool show at Down Under this evening with an interesting mix of area artists including Linoma Mashers, VViloughby and Jeremy Mercy and the Rapture Orphans. Jersey Shore guy Pauly D is at Royal Grove and you can get your Irish on with Ellis Island at Brazen Head. Much more below.
