Rock for David Roach, Jazz on the Green Starts Today, Nu Metal from India, An Amazing Mullet, Southern Rock, Live at The Low End and More!
Thursday Night Live Music Lineup
The band Junkyard was part of LA's hair metal and glam metal scene in the late 80s and early 90s. The band had MTV and rock radio hits with "All the Time in the World" and "Simple Man," but us Headbangers Ball kids remember "Hollywood" the best. You can be sure that I had their first two cassette tapes in my personal collection. I honestly do not know all the details, but I believe that the band's singer David Roach resides in Omaha currently. I saw him get up on stage with an area band at a recent Faster Pussycat show at The Waiting Room.
What we do know is that he is battling cancer and currently requires around-the-clock care and supervision. Chris "The Rev" Mars, a Nebraska native and DJ, has put together Rock For David Roach—A Rock Anthem of Hope, Strength and Courage. This is a compilation on Bandcamp that has a massive 68-song track listing with artists from Nebraska and Texas donating their tunes. You will find artists from Nebraska’s past like Mandown, Xtend, Clever and Screaming for Silence, along with artists such as Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal, Kris Lager Band and Virgin Mary Pistol Grip.
100% of the proceeds from this release go directly to David and his family.
Jazz on the Green starts today, Shaun Johnson & The Big Band Experience will perform. Johnson is a native of Iowa and a member of the a cappella group Tonic Sol-Fa, which has sold millions of albums and earned an Emmy Award. He and his big band blend a variety of styles and can be compared to artists like Michael Bublé and Lake Street Dive. Johnson released his newest EP, Vintage, in March. The performance tonight is free at Turner Park at Midtown Crossing.
Tonight, at Live at The Low End at Bemis Center is Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe—from the bio-” Robert Aiki Aubrey Lowe is an artist, curator and composer that works primarily with, but not limited to voice and modular synthesizer for sound in the realm of spontaneous music. Along with analog video synthesis works, he has brought forth an A/V proposal that has been a focus of live performance and installation / exhibition.” This is a FREE event.
Southern rock band Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown return to Nebraska for a show at Waiting Room tonight. The band is out on the road in support of their sixth album, Electrified. They also just released a new single this year with Mark Morton from Lamb of God called “Forever in The Light.”
Bloodywood is a metal band from India who fuse Indian folk instruments with metal. Yup. They have a new album out called Nu Delhi and a song with Babymetal. They will be at Bourbon Theatre tonight.
Remember that Nelly and Florida Georgia Line song “Lil Bit”? Well, Redferrin helped write that. Redferrin also has an awesome mullet. That is a mullet, right? He also had a hit himself with “Just Like Johnny.” You can catch the White House, Tennessee (yup) native doing their own songs from their new album Some City, Somewhere at Slowdown tonight
Chicago bluesman John Primer is on his second night at The Zoo Bar this week for their anniversary week. Primer has been the lead guitarist for Muddy Waters, Willie Dixon, and Magic Slim. You would be hard pressed to find another more authentic blues artist out playing live shows. Primer put out a tribute to Magic Slim, who was a Lincoln, Nebraska, resident later in his life, a few years back. The 80-year-old is not slowing down; he has put out three albums in the last two years, including 2025’s Grown In Mississippi. Tonight, he shares the lineup with the Mike Zito Trio. Zito will perform at Zoo Fest this weekend as part of Blood Brothers with Albert Castiglia.
