Sorry this is super late. Was on vaction and was workingon this and then Spotify took a dump and it was hard to find the time again. No You Tube playlist this week as that takes a lot of time to put together and I just do not have it this morning. HERE is the weekly Spotify Playlist though.
Astroid No. 4-Several Shapes of Solar Flares-The long running shoe-gaze/psych rock band continues it’s much more prolific second act with an album that will appeal to classic pop shoegaze fans. This is a wonderful listen all the way through and worth repeated listens.
Bad Ups-Life Of Sin-seem like a pretty unknown band from Philly, but it’s good straight forward rock/punk rock. I bet the members of this band have Rancid, Green Day, Clash and Replacements records in their collection.
Baynk-Senescence-Second album from New Zealand EDM producer. It’s chill pop EDM that pretty much anyone can listen to. Pleasant listen, some of the songs stick and they create some very cool sounds and vibes here and there.
Being Dead-Eels-This is a must listen. Second album from I think a duo. It’s lo-fi art indie pop but it’s song after song of weird, fun, off kilter but pretty damn listenable stuff. Every song seems to have a different twist.
Ben Bohmer-Bloom-EDM producer much like Baynk up there. Same general vibe here though he branches out into more interesting places musically and stylistically. If you are going to dive into a light chill EDM album, this is the one this week. JONAH, Lykke Li, Oh Wonder and more guest.
Bilal-Adjust Brightness-Soul singer Bilal put out an album in 2000 that I loved. Like I was telling people about it and hyping him up as the future. Then he didn’t put out anything for a decade. Then he started putting out albums that take a little bit of effort to listen to, but there are rewards. He did an odd live album last year I think with Robert Glasper and ?uestlove and Common and more. It’s a very deep and dark soul music with a lot of cool musical things happening. Not for everyone.
Black Brunswicker-Been Around Here Before-Ambient folk artist from the UK. Seems to be pretty prolific in their early career. Very nice stuff, though sometimes it can be a little to reliant on being new-age-ish and environmental sounds.
Eli & Fur-Dreamscapes-EDM duo from London doing chill pop music that appeals more to pop fans I am guessing that EDM fans. Nice listen some fun songs, but most are pretty average. A little dream pop in the mix.
Ezra Collective-Dance, No One’s Watching-Jazz group from the UK that have made major waves. In 2023 they one the Mercury Music Prize in the UK, which is the most credible award over there that you can win. They were the first jazz band to do this. This is their follow up album and if you like jazz with just a little extra to the mix, a little funk, a little downtempo, a little soulful jazz than check this out. Very listenable and very good. I think a lot of jam band fans would dig this also.
Jerry Paper – INBETWEEZER-probably around the eighth album for Jerry Paper. His stuff is almost too middle of the road pop-rock for me, but he always seems to keep me just interested enough with his quirky positive sounding pop music. Not a Weezer tribute album.
Kate Bollinger-Songs From A Thousand Frames Of Mind-I thought I knew this artist, but I guess not as this is her debut. It is a delightful album of a indie pop singer-songwriter tunes. I played a few times driving on my trip this week. Possibly my favorite album out this week. Check it out. She will sound familiar.
Leon Thomas-Mutt- I didn’t think I would like this as much as I do. The Grammy Award winning songwriter usually works with Drake, Rick Ross and J. Cole which is not my brand of music. It’s very modern R&B but doing a lot of great things with production and it has a lot of variety on it, but keeps it together as a cohesive album. I don’t love all of it, but really like a good chunk of it.
Liam Benzvi – …And His Splash Band-I will have to listen to this more to see if it sticks. The main reason I am giving this more of a chance is because Blood Orange is involved in it. It’s the type of chill synthy indie pop that I dig and there is some cool musical things happening, but just not fully connecting with his delivery and the songs yet. That could change, there is potential.
Mediocre – Growth Eater-If you want a fun throwback to 90’s female fronted grungy indie pop this is going to work for you. There seems to be a lot of this out there, but this one is worth a listen.
Neva Dinova-Canary -first album in 14 years from the once based in Nebraska band. It’s a rock album and an urgent one at that, though it has plenty of nuances and twists and turns and intropective moments and songwriting. Some say it is their best work, and I am not going to argue with that.
The Wolfgang Press – A 2nd Shape-first album from the 4AD band (not anymore obviously) since 1995. This is shockingly good. Age is their friend as they slowly croak gorgeous, interersting, dark and appealing songs and soundscapes. I have long been a fan of this band, and did not anticpate this being a such a strong output. It’s a bummer that getting vinyl or CD on this seems to be limited to their website only. Hopefully it comes out through normal distribution soon.
