New Music From Space To Play, Grammy Award Winning Jazz, Hotdog-Core Festival and Josh Morningstar Returns
Friday Night Live Music Happenings
In full transparency, I am involved in helping to launch this first single from Space To Play. If you have gone to see Blue Moon Ghetto in recent times, the members of Space To Play will look familiar, as this is them, but this is not Blue Moon Ghetto. The upcoming music from Space To Play is a completely new endeavor, sound, and concept. I was there when the original lineup of Blue Moon Ghetto started, and being involved with them while they achieved their success is what really got me started in this whole area music thing. I have heard most of the music from Space To Play and can say that you will hear a much different sound and quite a few different sounds, actually. There is an album coming, but first there will be a few singles. Today is the launch of their debut single “Holdin’ The Gun.” Space To Play is Matt Banta, Clint Thomas, Kevin Thomas, and Scott Evans, and their music is produced by Dana Murray. This is the first release from the newly launched record label Omaha Music Group, of which I am also involved. You can check out the song on all of the usual streaming spots and HERE is a link to some of those.
End the month and start the new one at (checks notes) The Worlds Premier Hot Dog-Core Mixed Genre Music Festival. Yup. It’s Glizzy Fest and it takes place tonight and tomorrow. Tonight is at Reverb Lounge and tomorrow is at Waiting Room. Enjoy Decent Dogs and the music of Otis Julius, The Scabby Ghouls, Smoke Break, Dread & $trange, Forest, Snake Lucci, Hi Hats, The Carrion Crawlers, Manson Hats, Dakotah Faye, Cody Moon, SJ23 X Brodie1, Jinx, SRT-KG and M4K3SH1FT
I am pretty sure my first trip out to Buck’s Bar and Grill was to see the legend Billy Don Burns. He had Josh Morningstar with him, and that night made me a big fan of the singer-songwriter. He is a fantastic songwriter, and I would put him in the same camp as artists such as Todd Snider, James McMurtry, and Ray Wylie Hubbard. He is out supporting his self-titled album that came out less than a year ago. He will be at Buck’s Bar and Grill this evening.
Paquito D’ Rivera is the recipient of multiple Grammy and Latin Grammy awards and has dozens of albums out as a bandleader. The alto saxophonist, clarinetist and composer has played and recorded with everyone from Gloria Estefan to Dizzy Gillespie. He will be at the Holland Music Club this evening.
Other happenings tonight include the Homeward Bound For The Heartland benefit concert featuring Steve Monroe, Dr. Webb, Jeff Moore, The Dive Kings, Save the Hero, and Virgin Mary Pistol Grip. Strange Pleasures will be jamming at Bar 39, and country singer Tyler Braden will be singing his new song “God & Guns N’ Roses” at Slowdown tonight. If you are in the mood for some blues, you have Dustin Arbuckle & the Damnations at B.Bar and Hector Anchondo at Havana Garage. There is a silly amount of music happening tonight; you can check it all out below.
