Please note that this is just a VERY small amount of shows happening in our area in March. If you subscribe to Omaha Buzz you will get a weekly calendar with over 100 performances a week and multiple in-depth listings of shows happening every week.
March 1st-Keith Sweat-The Orpheum-The trip to the Sweat Hotel was supposed to happen in November, but that got postponed. On March 1st, the originator of New Jack Swing, Keith Sweat, is coming to the Orpheum. He is on the Make It Last Forever tour, which is also the name of his first album. I still have people coming into Homer’s every week looking for Keith Sweat albums, and that has consistently been the case for forty years. People love some Sweat!
March 1st-Keith Harkin-The Zoo Bar-What better way to celebrate Saint Patrick month (it’s a whole month now, right?) than with Keith Harkin? Keith was the frontman for the popular group Celtic Thunder. He has been putting out solo albums for quite some time now and has even hit number one on the Billboard World Music Charts. He will be at The Zoo Bar on March 1st.
March 1st-Edwin McCain-Whiskey Roadhouse-I cannot remember the last time I saw a touring act scheduled for Whiskey Roadhouse, but Edwin McCain would be that. The “I’ll Be” singer will be there on March 1st.
March 2nd-Del Sol Quartet-Lied Center-The Del Sol Quartet out of San Francisco has been cranking out the chamber music since 1992. The group has released a dozen albums since then and is now the subject of a podcast, Sounds Current with Del Sol.
March 5th-Ace Monroe-Reverb Lounge-This band does the hair metal thing with some southern rock in the mix. Usually when young bands try to do this, it comes off as a parody, but this band comes off as genuine as can be. When I watch their videos, it is like it is 1987 starting all over again, and who knows? If anyone can kick off that revival in a way that is not a joke, I think it might be Ace Monroe.
March 5th-Whores. -Slowdown-Sludge metal band Whores. finally returned last year with their second album War. They will bring their noise rock sound to Slowdown and Facet and Violenteer will join them on stage.
March 6th-Paisley Fields at The Sydney-Paisley Fields is a country singer-songwriter and touring member of queer country legends Lavender Country. With songs like “Ride Me Cowboy”, you know that this will be a fun night at the Sydney on March 6th
March 6th-Gaelic Storm-Steelhouse Omaha-Irish and Scottish band (from California) Gaelic Storm will be at Steelhouse Omaha on March 6th. That is about ten days before St. Patrick’s Day and gives you an excuse to start the whole thing right then and there. Gaelic Storm was in a little known movie called Titanic. Opening is Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band, and they are a party all by themselves.
March 7th-Finom-The Sydney-Chicago’s Finom have been through Omaha before, but it was under their old name, Ohmme. Sima Cunningham and Macie Stewart are Finom, and for a decade now they have been weaving their voices together and creating some of the most interesting indie albums out there. The classically trained multi-instrumentalists also put on a unique live show sonically, and it will be interesting to see them at The Sydney. They bring along Nashville’s Brother Bird and Omaha artist Wedding for the show. Not one to be missed.
March 9th-Tommy Castro-Waiting Room-Popular blues rocker Tommy Castro released a new album a couple of weeks back. If you purchased Closer To The Bone or do so now, you still have plenty of time to learn the songs before his Waiting Room show on March 9th.
March 11th-Buckethead at The Admiral-The legendary guitarist Buckethead returns to Omaha to play at The Admiral on March 11th. Along with his solo career, he has played in Praxis, lots of Parliament and Funkadelic side projects, Primus projects, and a band called Guns N’ Roses.
March 11th-Ampers&One at Benson Theater-South Korean K-Pop group Ampers&One are on their first tour of America and you can be one of the first to see them stateside. You will also get to see them in a pretty intimate setting for a K-Pop group, The Benson Theater.
March 12th-Sunny Sweeney-Sunday Roadhouse-Reverb Lounge-Our area loves country singer-songwriter Sunny Sweeney. A couple of weeks back I was at Buck’s, and in front of my seat were many posters of Christmas shows she has done at that venue. This time it is not Christmas and not Buck’s, and even though it is a Sunday Roadhouse show, it is not on a Sunday. It is March 12th; it is a Wednesday, and Sunny Sweeney will be at Reverb Lounge.
March 15th-Low Down Drifters-Bucks Bar and Grill-Fort Worth, Texas, band Low Down Drifters are at Bucks Bar and Grill on March 15th. They are a country rock band, and their bio says they are the “epitome of a rock band with a fiddle problem," which always makes me laugh. I am a big fan of their song “Awful Truth,” and that resides on a couple of my frequently played playlists. Check them out.
March 16th-Lesser Care at Reverb Lounge-One of the wonderful things about doing Omaha Buzz is that it forces me to listen to some bands I might not otherwise listen to. Take this band. If you look at the cover of their current album, Heel Turn, it looks like a mumble rap artist. Seriously, Google it or look on Spotify. I would have never put this on (no disrespect to mumble rap artists). I did, though, because I wanted to describe it for the ticket on sale. Holy hell, was I shocked when the album turned out to be kick-ass shoegaze. So, not only did it go on repeat and cause me to message many people to force them to listen to it, but it is one of my most anticipated shows. Hopefully now it is for you as well. Put this on!
March 19th-Jay Worthy-Culxr House-Raised between Compton and Vancouver, Jay’s life is a story of resilience, defying odds, and redefining success. With powerful collaborations alongside Kendrick Lamar, Curren$y, and Larry June, he brings authentic tales to every beat and rhyme.
March 17th-The Amity Affliction at The Admiral-As of a few weeks ago, The Amity Affliction shed a member and became a three-piece. You will be one of the first to see this new version of the metalcore band when they perform at The Admiral on March 17th. They play with Hail The Sun, Many Eyes, and Unwell.
March 22nd-Bands & Brews-The Astro-Hector Anchondo and his band will be headlining a FREE evening of music at The Astro on March 22nd. You will be able to enjoy and chat with makers of your favorite craft brews and enjoy the music of Speck Nelson and the Ralstones, The Broadways, and Hector Anchondo Band. They made 500 reserved tickets available awhile ago but those sold out immediately. There will be 1000 tickets available, though, on the day of the event.
March 25th-Al Stewart and Livingston Taylor-It is once again the year of the cat as Al Stewart will bring songs from his lengthy and legendary career to the Holland Center. Also on the bill is Livingston Taylor. Yes, he is James Taylor’s brother, but has also has a lengthy career stretching back to the late 60’s which includes songs like the excellent “Carolina Day” and "I Will Be In Love With You".
March 25th-Geoff Tate’s Operation Mindcrime-Bourbon Theater-The Final Chapter is coming to The Bourbon Theater on March 25th. This will be the final time the former Queensryche frontman will perform Operation Mindcrime in full. He will also do other Queensryche hits.
March 27th-Diamond Rio-The Astro-90’s country hit-makers Diamond Rio want to “meet in the middle” of La Vista for a show at The Astro Depending on when you are reading this, you can do so “in a week or two”.
March 27th-Veleteers-Slowdown-The punky alt rock band from Boulder just released their new album A Million Knives a couple of weeks ago. You can hear the new song everyone is digging, “Suck The Cherry”, live along with a whole bunch of others.
March 29th-The Music Of Green Day with Omaha Symphony at Holland Center-Rock musicians and vocalists will join the Omaha Symphony to celebrate the music of Green Day. I am having a hard time wrapping my head around this one, but if anyone can do it, the Omaha Symphony can.
March 31st-Weedeater-Reverb Lounge-This show came about quickly; it will actually be in this week's on-sale list as well. The doom stoner rock band hasn't released an album since 2015, but that doesn’t stop them from touring. They will be at Reverb Lounge on March 31st.
March 30th-Whitechapel-Bourbon Theater-Tennessee deathcore band Whitechapel are coming to the Bourbon Theater. They are bringing along Brand of Sacrifice, 200 Stab Wounds, and Alluvial
