Maha Festival Announces Today, Area Acts Added To Other Festivals, Very Cool Band at Duffy's Tonight and Much More
Wednesday Night Live Music Lineup
Good day! We’ll go through the shows for today, but be sure to check if they are happening before you head out.
A couple of news items: Today, the Maha Festival will announce their 2025 lineup for a sort of reboot at Heartland of America Park on August 2nd. Maha is combining forces with Outlandia and bringing much of the old team back together. I would assume the announcement will be made this evening, as Maha typically does it then. 1% Productions, the production team for the festival, posted last night that the lineup is coming in 24 hours, so I’m taking that literally for now.
I have stage-managed every Maha except the very first one, so I have the opportunity to bend some ears and possibly find out about the lineup. However, I like to be surprised, so I work hard to avoid knowing too much. Even though I try not to find out, three names have been dropped to me, and if they’re correct, I know I’ll be very excited for the festival. It definitely didn’t go in the direction I predicted. If one of the names is true, it’s someone some of us have been hoping for a long time. Another name is one of the most critically acclaimed acts in recent years, which should get people very excited. You can bet I’ll share my thoughts on the lineup right here tomorrow.
In other festival news, a while back we mentioned that Marcey Yates, Uh Oh, Estrogen Projection, and Bad Self Portraits are headed to the big Somewhere Festival in Wichita. Yates will also be going to Ohio for the Treefort Festival, which features Omaha’s Bright Eyes as a headliner. Recently, it was announced that Violenteer will be playing at the Caterwaul Festival in Minneapolis. Yesterday, it was announced that Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal would be performing at the Telluride Blues & Brews Festival in Colorado, one of the long-running granddaddy festivals entering its fourth decade. Congrats to all our area acts making moves!
New York’s Starcleaner Reunion is scheduled to play at Duffy’s Tavern this evening. I was considering making the trip down, as the young band’s small output of music is very appealing and right up my alley. When reading about them, they mention influences like Stereolab and Saint Etienne, and you can definitely hear that in their music. If you're into classic indie pop, this is right up your alley as well. Hopefully, they’ll come back through, as I don’t think a trip to Lincoln is in the cards for me today.
I’ve been listening to Jay Worthy all morning, and I’m really digging his old-school style. I also love that the artwork for his current single “I Wish” is a take on the *Colors* soundtrack. From his bio: Raised between Compton and Vancouver, Jay’s life is a story of resilience, defying the odds, and redefining success. With powerful collaborations alongside Kendrick Lamar, Curren$y, and Larry June, he brings authentic tales to every beat and rhyme. He is scheduled to perform tonight at Culxer House.
High-energy rock band Public Figure is scheduled to showcase their music tonight at Reverb Lounge, including their latest single, “Animals.” They will be joined by Out In Front and A Band Called Hemingway.
Blues Music Award winner and electric blues saxophonist Jimmy Carpenter is scheduled to perform at the Zoo Bar this evening and at Philly Bar and Grill tomorrow. Carpenter has a long musical history, including performances in Mike Zito’s band and recordings with artists like Maria Muldaur, Jimmy Thackery, Eric Lindell, and more.
