Indie pop band Hippo Campus return to Omaha, this time at the Astro, for a show on February 15th. The band is out tour for their fourth album Flood. Mei Semones is opening this and she does jazzy indie pop music and me be the next big thing. Seriously.
People have been waiting a long time for a new Benjamin Booker album, and it finally arrived last week. The album has been getting rave reviews, and new fans are also jumping on board. Catch him now at Reverb Lounge on Saturday as he may be headed for bigger venues soon.
Texas country and Americana band Flatland Cavalry will bring music from their entire catalog to Steelhouse Omaha on Saturday. The band last released an album over a year ago, so we will see what Cleto Cordero and the guys have up their sleeves. Tyler Halverson opens the show. Tickets go on sale Friday HERE
There are a whole lot of area musicians that are going to get together and play music tonight. What are they going to play? Who knows. They sure don’t. See an entire evening of improvised music Saturday evening at Project Project.
Other happenings on Saturday night include metalcore band Palaye Royale at Bourbon Theater. It is the final night of Lincoln Exposed Festival in Lincoln, the fourth night of Ward Davis sold out residency at Bucks Bar and Grill and there is a free show at O’Leavers with Alienation Revival, Settling Houses and Softlines . Robo Dojo with Peach Paw and Krissy on the Internet are at The Sydney, the Nebraska Elvis Festival continues in Lincoln and Daniel and the Deliverance are at The Down Under Lounge.
Long running Christian rock band Newsboys will be celebrating 40 years of the band, though I don’t think there are any original members anymore. There are a bunch from 30 years ago though, and Michael Tait, who used to be in DC Talk. I saw this band when I was a teenager; they have been doing it a long time. They will be at The Astro on Sunday with Bryan Olesen. Olesen is from Lincoln and was once in the Newsboys and Casting Pearls. Olesen placed third on last season's The Voice.
Omaha band Blue House will celebrate their 35th anniversary at Stocks-N-Bonds on Sunday. The blues-based band has been keeping the party going longer than most and doing so consistently. They have multiple albums of original music along with live albums and are, of course, in the Nebraska Music Hall of Fame. They will have many special guests join them for this show, which is the epitome of Sunday Funday.
Wow! The 19th Anniversary of the Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards is happening on Sunday at The Admiral. I was on the board for over ten years and heard so many times that this was not going to last long. There were moments, but here they are heading into what will hopefully be year 20 in 2026. This event celebrates the arts in Omaha and is always a blast to attend. Every year has a little different vibe, and this year will be the first at The Admiral, and I am excited to see what they have in store.
