Lots of Bright Eyes News, New Ojai Video, Wednesday/Thursday Live Music Options
Up and coming country artist, long running songwiter, popular emo band, a great double bill and more coming to Omaha and Lincoln mid-week
Bright Eyes just released a new song and video for the song “Bells and Whistles” yesterday. The song is from the album Five Dice, All Threes, which will be released on September 20th. The band also announced a show at Steelhouse Omaha two days later, on September 22nd. The video was filmed at The Admiral here in Omaha, and you will see a lot of locals in the video. I quite like this song too. You can check out the video HERE
Indie rock band Ojai just released a new video for the song “The Other Night." I found out about it on Tim McMahon’s Lazy-I website yesterday. You can see the video HERE It is a really cool video directed by Tony Bonacci, who just released the film The Headliner. It’s a great song also, and this is one of the must see bands in our area right now.
Americana folk and country artist Charles Wesley Godwin has had a pretty meteoric rise. He has toured with and appeared on albums by Zach Bryan, and that seems to have given him quite a boost. He considers Kris Kristofferson, Willie Nelson, and John Prine among his influences. Godwin will be at Steelhouse Omaha Wednesday night.
Nashville emo band Free Throw will perform songs from their 2023 album Lessons We Swear to Keep and more at Reverb Lounge Wednesday evening. The band’s debut album These Days Are Gone turns ten years old this year, and you can expect to hear a few off of that by the looks of things.
It has been awhile since I have seen Amos Lee, but I do remember being transported by his performance at Stir Cove many years ago. In the past few years, he has been doing some tribute albums, including one to jazz great Chet Baker and songwriter Lucinda Williams, who was just in town. He did knock out an album of originals in 2022, and his new album, Transmissions, is coming in August. So, there is no writer block there. You can catch Amos on Thursday night at The Astro.
One hell of a double bill is The Menszingers and Lucero at Bourbon Theater on Thursday. Both are bands with punk ethos, whose music appeals to those who grew up on punk, and maybe they are a little too old for circle pits. It’s a really solid and smart combo of bands to put on the road together.
