Saturday and Sunday Live Music Lineup
Happy Weekend! SO much happening. Dig in below.
The best way to support Omaha Buzz is to flip the free subscription to the paid option. This does not get you anything extra; it just helps me keep this going and offsets the time involved. It is $30 a year or $5 a month. If you do not want to subscribe and get emails and are one of the people that just pop onto the website (and half of you are), you can also support with one of the options below. Thank you, I appreciate it.
Other ways to support if you do not want to subscribe or want to support further. Thank you!
Well, this makes me feel old. 89.7 The River is turning thirty years old! I remember when they played classical music. They put together a lineup for their birthday party for Saturday that has everyone talking. Hometown boys 311 will return and play a show with Sublime. Sublime is now fronted by Bradley Nowell’s son Jakob. Also on the lineup are three bands that are very popular in our area, including Sick Puppies (Edit-Sick Puppies have cancelled) and The Urge. Sick Puppies had a new album come out in March 89.7 The River has broken a lot of music in our area and beyond, but I am not sure if they broke anyone like they did Blue October, so it is very fitting that they are on the lineup. Omaha band Anchondo gets to open the festival, and I can’t think of anyone more fitting. This will happen on the CB side of the River at River’s Edge Park.
Marcus Lewis has Omaha roots but currently resides in Kansas City. The trombone player will return to town for a show at NOMA on Saturday 7. The Billboard charting jazz artist leads not only a quintet, but also an 18-piece big band!
Enjoli and Timeless are the mainstay of the Music at Miller Park series, having performed multiple times. The soulful band features some of Omaha’s best musicians, accompanied by the smooth vocals of Enjoli. The band embraces classic R&B, funk, and gospel sounds, bringing them into the present. They are multiple Omaha Entertainment and Arts Awards winners and will be performing at Music at Miller Park on Saturday for a FREE show.
This is cool. Iowa City singer-songwriter David Zollo will be at The Jewell on Capitol. Zollo has always been a must see when he comes to town and I haven’t seen his name on Omaha calendars in a while.
Country artist Cole Swindell won Best New Country Artist at the ACM’s back in 2015. Since then he has had eight number one hits, and he just released his new album Spanish Moss this past week. He will be at Stir Cove on Saturday.
The classic rock bands are lining up to play Nebraska again this year. Three big artists from back in the day Kansas, 38 Special and Dave Mason (Traffic) will be at The Astro Amphitheater on Saturday.
Omaha’s Sailing In Soup will kick off the second day of Zoo Fest on Saturday with their takes on favorite tunes. Church of the Blues features many Lincoln musicians performing their interpretations of classic blues numbers. Soulful blues pianist and vocalist Kelly Hunt returns to the Zoo Bar on Saturday, where she is a favorite. The soulful blues continues with Tommy Castro and The Painkillers, who are touring with their latest Alligator Records release, Closer to the Bone. Lincoln natives and current International Blues Challenge champions Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal will wrap up the festival on Saturday night.
Other happenings this weekend include adult marching band The Wrinkles in Time at O’Leavers, out on their wonderful patio on Sunday. Rhythm Collective are your reggae choice this weekend at Bob & Willie's Wonderbowl on Saturday. Messiahvore, Mijo, Million Dollar Veins, Trillion Ton Beryllium Ships are at Reverb Lounge on Saturday, and Americana artists Jonah Kagen & Crowe Boys are at Barnato on Saturday night. Tetsuya Nishiyama, Grace Rock and Andrew Bailie are fine way to wind down the weekend with some jazz at Red Lion Lounge on Sunday evening.
