GRRRL Camp Lineup Announced-My Favorite Festival Lineup-Friday Night Events
The GRRRL Camp lineup has just been announced for Falconwood Park, located outside of Bellevue, Nebraska on July 19th and 20th. This is a doozy and easily my personal favorite lineup for 2024. The four headliners are Indigo De Souza, Mannequin Pussy, Hurray for the Riff Raff, and Shannon and the Clams. Plus Annie DiRusso, Girl Ray and more. Wow!
Indigo De Souza is on Saddle Creek Records and has released three albums, including last year's very critically acclaimed All of This Will End. A favorite of mine. De Souza in 2022 performed at the Maha Music festival. Mannequin Pussy just released I Got Heaven, their first album since 2019’s fantastic Patience album. I Got Heaven is among the best albums of 2024 and the band's best work to date. They are one hell of a live show, too. Currently sitting at number one on my list of 2024 albums is The Past is Still Alive from Hurray for the Riff Raff, It is just a perfect indie songwriter album. The last time they came through Omaha was opening for Bright Eyes. Garage rock band Shannon & The Clams has always been a favorite among a lot of people in Omaha, and they have a new album coming out.
There is more-Nashville’s Annie DiRusso doesn’t have an album out yet but has been putting out EPs of well-written indie rock for a long time now. I first heard Annie because of a cover she did of Tommy James and the Shondells, “I Think We’re Alone Now." She has toured with Samia and Declan McKenna, and I am very excited to see her live. London’s Girl Ray is a cool get. They will bring indie pop, disco, and dance to the festival. They have three fun albums out, and my favorite cover of Sophie Ellis Bextor’s “Murder on the Dance Floor”. Also performing are Rosali (Philadelphia, PA/Omaha,NE), Mint Green (Boston,MA), Keo & Them (Kansas City, MO), Estrogen Projection (Lincoln, NE), Pictoria Vark (Des Moines, IA), Madeline Reddel (Omaha, NE), Krissy (Omaha, NE).
“This year will look very different from last year, and we’re excited about that," says Shannon Claire, Falconwood Park Executive Director/Talent Buyer; Founder of GRRRL CAMP. “Last year's event was amazing; seeing how everyone came together in such a short amount of time inspired us to elevate the festival for 2024; with 1% Productions’ support, we’re bringing in acts that we wouldn’t be able to otherwise, and it will set the tone for the future. ”.
Two of these acts were on my Maha wishlist for this year if Maha were happening, and this is just an incredible curation of acts. The festival is in its second year and is open to all ages; camping is encouraged (you pay extra for that, of course), and there will be a lot of vendors, activities, and food happening also. GRRRL Camp is a festival celebrating and empowering women in music, art, and business—from all backgrounds—and for everyone. Someone is going to ask the question, so yes, everyone can attend GRRRL Camp, but obviously respecting the mission of the festival would be a good plan of action.
