See you at the shows! MarQ
The HIRS Collective is in Lincoln on Tuesday at 1867. The collective is Jenna Pup and Esem, and they collaborate with others. The sound is grindcore, punk, hardcore, and there hip-hop as well. It’s abrasive; there's no doubt about that. Who do they collaborate with? Everyone from Shirley Manson of Garbage, Frank Iero of My Chemical Romance, Anthony Green of Circa Survive, and many, many more. Chances of hearing your favorite song? Possibly slim. The band has two full-length albums out, but also three compilation albums that have one hundred songs a pop on them, plus splits and EPs. It should be a wild night on 14th Street.
Nerdcore rapper, Adult Swim writer, and voice actor (MC Pee Pants) MC Chris, returns to Omaha for a show at Reverb Lounge on Tuesday evening. Electro pop duo Crunk Witch is also on the lineup.
Chicago blues artist Toronzo Cannon will swing through Nebraska this week. The Alligator Records recording artist will be at The Zoo Bar on Wednesday and The Granary Green on Thursday. Cannon is touring on his latest album, Shut Up & Play.
A few weeks ago, country singer-songwriter Shelby Lee Lowe was on stage with Eric Church during CMA Fest in Nashville. On Wednesday, he will be at Bucks Bar and Grill in Venice, Nebraska. Lowe is from Cornersville, TN, so I am sure he will feel right at home at Bucks. In one of his songs, he sings about a Volounteers T-shirt. Maybe he will stop by the CWS for a game.
Arrows In Action have a youthful commercial pop rock sound and are originally from Gainsville, Florida orginally. They have a sound that could see them become pretty big someday, so catch them now if this is your thing. They are at The Waiting Room on Wednesday.
Tiny The Dream is producer Suzanne Bonifacio and band from Buffalo, New York, and they describe themselves as angular pop, permanent wave, and alternative rock. I am listening right now, and that sounds about right, though I had to Google what “permanent wave” was. If you are putting The Smiths and Red Hot Chili Peppers into the same “genre", that is not a thing. Anyway! Tiny The Dream sounds cool, and I may pop in and check this out. They are at Reverb Lounge on Wednesday.
