Happy Weekend! I would say this is possibly the most packed weekend of 2025 so far. There is a ton of music happening, and there are other events, such as Matt Rife at CHI Health Center and the grand opening weekend of the new Funny Bone. I don’t list anything but music, but you have a lot of options to get out and about on Saturday and Sunday in many different mediums.
I have had a large influx of subscribers this week, which looks like it is thanks to a link on Omaha Reddit. Welcome! Thank you for joining, and thank you to whomever put up that link. It is free to check out Omaha Buzz and always will be. If you are finding value in what I am doing and want to contribute a little financially, you can flip to a paid subscription. I have it set as low as they will allow me to do it. You do not get anything extra, as I want all content to be available to everyone, as the goal is to get people to shows, but it helps me make my time on this make sense. I appreciate it!
See you at the shows!

Steelhouse Omaha is bringing more '80s bands to town on Saturday. This time, it’s Flock of Seagulls, Bow Wow Wow, and Animotion. I think the last time we saw Flock of Seagulls in Omaha was at Edgefest at Aksarben in the ‘90s. I have always wanted to see Bow Wow Wow, and I saw Animotion in Pasadena a couple of years back—they were a blast! Really looking forward to tonight.
If I was not already going to that 80’s show tonight, I would absolutely be heading to Lincoln to see Gen and the Degenerates at Duffy’s. The UK punk bands 2024 album Anti-Fun Propaganda was one of my favorites of last year, and I have to think they would be an absolute riot on stage. Bummed to miss this one. NOBRO and Bad Waitress join them.
Today is the Third Annual Global Sounds Festival. This is a FREE festival at Upland Park and put on by Omaha Performing Arts. This year they have Los Stellarians, which is SA Martinez band (his other band is 311). Hopefully they do their version of The Smiths “This Charming Man” today. Also on the lineup is Jungle Fire, Rhythm Collective, Chad Stoner Band and Parfait.
Whiskey Myers are a Texas country rock band with an emphasis on the rock. I still think of this band as one of the new acts on that scene, but they have been doing this for almost 20 years now. They have their seventh album, Whomp Whack Thunder, coming out on September 26th, and I am sure you will hear all about it Saturday night at The Astro Amphitheater. They perform with Bayker Blankenship and Pony Bradshaw. I really dig Bradshaw—check out his album from last year called Thus Spoke The Fool.
'90s country star Collin Raye will be your headliner tonight at Bellevue Rocks! Riverfront Festival. Raye has a load of country hits, including Love Me and I Think About You. I bet he still gets some major play at weddings. I wonder if he changed the VCR line in the song Little Rock? He performs with area favorites Lucas Minor and Jimmy Weber tonight.
This show should be a blast. The Dead Deads have been releasing new music this year, and it looks like maybe a new album will be coming down the pipeline at some point. The band have four albums out previously, with their last being 2021’s Tell Your Girls It’s Alright. I love that they started out as a thrown-together Dead Milkmen cover band. They are at Barnato on Saturday night with Valley of the Sun.
The little pigs are coming back to Omaha. Green Jello/Jelly will be at Reverb Lounge on Saturday. The band (well, vocalist Bill Manspeaker) will celebrate 45 years next year. Crazy. They are joined by This Day Forward, Molten and Beyond Lobotomy.
Today at Falconwood Park is the Midtwest Tacos & Tequila Fest. Besides food, booze and lucha libre wrestling there will also be music! The lineup this year is DJ Nativo & DJ JPEG. Rosendo Robles, Ray Bustamante, Mariachi Los Galleros, Parfait, Raíces De Mexico, Los Cruxes, Oye Oye Como Va.
Other happenings on Saturday include Eric Jacobson Quartet at The Jewell on Capitol, if you need some jazz this weekend. There is plenty of blues, including Blues Fest at Soaring Wings with Dennis Jones, Piper and the Hard Times, Josh Hoyer and Soul Colossal, and Tyron Benoit. More blues can be found at Ditmar Orchard in Council Bluffs with Hector Anchondo Band, Nick Schnebelen Band, and Jackson Stokes Band. There is a big bluegrass festival happening in Nebraska City with Henhouse Prowlers, McGovern String Band, Corson Branch Buzzard Club, and Blue Raven Bluegrass Review.
If you need country music, you can always head to Bucks Bar and Grill in Venice, and on Saturday you will find up-and-coming country act Krislyn Arthurs there. Ska band The Wingtips hold their Meatcutters Ball at Waiting Room. Original local music can be found at O’Leavers with Spurney’s Hawk, Plastic Presidents and Dip Tet, and also at Pageturners with Goodview and Wedding. KZUM in Lincoln is having a fundraiser Saturday at Bourbon Theater with Clarence Tilton, The Hangin’ Cowboys, and Nolan Leonard, and if you need your grunge fix, you can head to Slowdown for Seattleite and Nevermind.
This UK band has one of the more interesting stories out there. They were a high-school band in Britan and lasted a couple years and split up. They recorded an EP on 30 CDR’s in 2000. Sixteen years later someone found one in a thrift shop and went on an internet search for the band through 4Chan and other places. In 2020 a long internet search found a member of the band. By this time the version of their song “D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L>” had become popular on You Tube, even though that version had a lot of degradation due to CD rot. Anyway, two of the members reformed after finding out all of this and put out their old music remastered and now make more music. The new album Ginkgo came out on April 4th. Panchiko will be at Slowdown on Sunday and it is said that tickets are getting a little slim for this show. So grab them now.
Big rock & roll double bill at Bourbon Theater on Sunday with Faster Pussycat and The Supersuckers. I saw Faster Pussycat last year and Taime and the band still put on a good show. Opening are The Rumours, Lonely Ones and Twisted Chrome.
