Friday Night Live Music Lineup
Happy Friday! You made it! It is every band and venue owner’s worst nightmare this evening. OK—maybe not worst—but the Huskers are playing a Friday night game and seem to be doing well, and people haven’t stopped watching for the season yet. If you’re like me and couldn’t tell you a single thing about what’s happening with the team, then boy, do I have some options for you this evening. Check them out below. The Lecrae show at The Admiral Friday evening has been cancelled.
You can see what is happening the rest of the weekend HERE with the weekly calendar.
Need some new music? I have my thoughts on some albums that came out last Friday, a playlist and the full album list HERE.
Need to know what shows went on sale Friday morning? You can check those out HERE.
HERE is today’s Spotify playlist. Ten songs to start your day. HERE is that playlist on Apple Music.
The big news about the show at O’Leavers on Friday night is that Kansas City post-hardcore band Shiner is performing at The Club. The band had a big influence in the Midwest and beyond, and their album The Egg is considered a must-have classic. For me, the big news is that Frogpond from Kansas City is playing at O’Leavers on Friday night.
Frogpond put out a few albums in the ’90s and were signed to a major label during the alt-rock/post-grunge feeding frenzy. Their Count to Ten and Safe Ride Home albums were favorites of mine. They wrote grungy pop anthems—indie alt-rock songs that maybe didn’t define the era then, but go listen to them now and tell me those songs don’t sound like the definition of at least part of that era. It’s the sound that many female-fronted indie rock bands in 2025 seem to be going for. The band reunited in 2021 with the album Time Thief, which I liked a lot. I saw the band back in the ’90s, of course, but haven’t seen the reunion—so I’m very excited to see them on Friday. Opening is Omaha’s own Bad Bad Men.
Arkansas country singer-songwriter Mallory Everett will make her debut at Bucks Bar and Grill (after the Husker game, I bet) on Friday. She has a real good sound on her Time to Learn album and feels to me like one of the more serious songwriters who floats through the venue. We’ll see how that works after a Husker game, but when she breaks out “She Chose the Bottle,” everyone should probably connect quickly. Her newest single, “Gaslight,” features Luther Dickinson from North Mississippi Allstars.
The Castellows are a rising country group of sisters from Georgia signed to Warner Brothers. They have tens of millions of streams, was on the Today show this summer, and have songs with Wyatt Flores and Flatland Calvery. They will be a Bourbon Theater in Lincoln on Friday night. You may look at them and think pop country, but this is pretty authentic sounding country, Americana and bluegrass-but also pop.
Country artist Jeremy McComb is taking the Honky Tonk Circus on tour. According to his website, the tour features a ‘90s super hits setlist with over $130,000 in stage production, transporting fans back to a time when songs “just seemed to matter more.” So, I guess this won’t fit at Buck’s, where he usually plays. This show will happen at The Waiting Room on Friday night and The Bourbon Theater on Saturday.
Other happenings on Friday night include a birthday bash for local musician Sebastian Lane. He will also be releasing a new single today at Harney Street Tavern. Journey tribute band Recaptured is at Slowdown on Friday night. Things are starting to get spooky—Friday will see Pinhead at Reverb for Moose’s Monster Bash with Virgin Mary Pistol Grip and more. The Omaha Symphony will celebrate Halloween this weekend with their scary movie music program.
