August 1st-Good Life Music Fest-Falconwood Park-Omaha’s Good Life Record label will take their festival outdoors this year to Falconwood Park. Many artists from around the area will perform August 1st on three stages. It looks like there will be an EMO night afterparty as well, with a separate ticket that is limited. I think Falconwood is the best place in the state for a festival, if you haven’t been, this is a great opportunity.
August 3rd-Young The Giant and Cold War Kids at The Astro Amphitheater-Pop band Young The Giant have a new album called Victory Garden coming out on May 1st. The “Mind Over Matter” performers will hit the Astro Amphitheater on August 3rd with Cold War Kids for a nice double bill.
August 4th-Yungblud-Stir Cove-This will be one of the most in‑demand shows in Omaha this year. Popular artist Yungblud, who has captivated both young music fans and old‑school rockers, is coming to Stir Cove on August 4th.
August 4th-The Black Crowes-Pinewood Bowl Theater-Southern rock legends The Black Crowes are heading to Lincoln with Southall. The brothers Robinson will perform at Pinewood Bowl Theater on August 4th. They are on a creative roll lately, releasing the album Happiness Bastards in 2024 (which I really liked), and they have another new album that came out in March called Pound of Feathers.
August 6th-Off With Their Heads-Reverb Lounge-Minneapolis hardcore band Off With Their Heads was last years Punk Rock BBQ headliner, and they are coming back to Reverb Lounge on August 6th. I see no new music from them out in the world, so expect all of your favorites.
August 6th-Gillian Welch & David Rawlings at Rococo Theater-Folk super-couple Gillian Welch and David Rawlings will bring their long running Woodland Tour to the Rococo Theater on August 6th. I saw this tour at it’s start and it was fantastic. The duo will play songs from both of their catalogs along with music they have made together including the Woodland album.
August 6th-Robbie Fulks-Sunday Roadhouse Waiting Room Lounge-For many decades Robbie Fulks has been one of the premier alt. country and Americana songwriter and performers. I was a massive fan of his album Let’s Kill Saturday Night on Geffen and the two follow-ups on Bloodshot. His latest album is Now Then. I wonder if with the Michael Jackson revival he will break out songs from his Michael Jackson tribute album.
August 7th-Scotty McCreery-Pinnacle Bank Championship-American Idol winner Scotty McCreery likes Omaha, as he has been through the area quite a bit in recent years. You may have caught him last year at Liberty First Credit Union Arena, and you get another chance this month when he is the second show at Pinnacle Bank Championship at Indian Creek on August 7th.
August 7th-IV and the Strange Band-Zoo Bar-IV and the Strange Band return to Nebraska for a show at The Zoo Bar on August 7th. Who is IV? Well his father is Hank Williams III, his grand pappy is Hank Williams Jr. and his great grandfather is…well yeah you got it. He hasn’t put out any music recently, but his 2023 album was produced by Shooter Jennings whose dad is…ok ok. Also on the lineup is Clownvis whose father was El…no…he is just a clown Elvis who hangs out with Weird Al
August 8th-Maha Festival-Heartland of America Park-We will talk about Maha a lot next week on Omaha Buzz and you can get my initial reaction to the lineup HERE. There is a lot of excitement for Wet Leg, and that was the right choice for Maha this year. I am excited for them as well, but want to remind people that Blondshell is the act not to sleep on here. They have a new album about to launch and I was just talking with their label this week, and they say it is excellent.
August 8th-Chris Janson and Priscilla Block at Warhorse Omaha-The first ever touring acts at Warhorse Casino has been announced for August 8th. An outdoor show with country stars Chris Janson and Priscilla Block. Janson has a new song out called “Fight For A Girl” and Block released the album Things You Didn’t See in 2025.
August 9th-Brad Colerick at Folk House Concert Series-Joslyn Castle Carriage House Former Nebraskan Brad Colerick returns for a show at Folk House. Colerick is a singer‑songwriter that resides in South Pasadena and I guess has been given the name Nighttime Mayor of South Pasadena. Can’t go wrong with that. You can get tickets to the show HERE. These can sell out, so do not wait.
August 12th-The Crane Wives-The Admiral-Grand Rapids Michigan indie rock band The Crane Wives are coming to The Admiral with Brye. They are of course named after "The Crane Wife" by The Decemberists, and the band have put out six albums.
August 15th-Tallgrass Prairie Songwriters Festival-Long running Omaha singer-songwriter and main-man behind Midwest Dilemma Justin Lamoueux has been doing monthly songwriter nights at Scriptown Brewing for awhile now. He will bring that vibe to Falconwood Park for a one day festival with over 25 songwriters sharing their songs and stories.
August 15th-Lomdardy-The Sydney-Lombardy obviously do not take themselves all that seriously, but their music seriously rocks. One of their latest songs “Jane Fonda” has a rock era Beastie Boys meets Jack White vibe to it. In other places on their new album Catch A Buzz, Not The Fuzz are gritty bluesy groove rock with “1992 Hooters 500”, and “Sexify” kind of borders on 90’s rap-rock. Yes, they have a ballad-”Goodbye (Get High).” This will be a wild show.
August 12th,13th, 14th, 15th-Playing With Fire-Slowdown-Omaha’s FREE blues and roots music festival will happen over four days in August. Put on by Jeff Davis and Vanessa Marie for 22 Years, the festival brings acts from all over the world to Omaha. This year Scotland, England, Austria, Canada, Fance and right here in Omaha will be represented. We will get deeper into these acts in a couple of weeks here on Omaha Buzz.
August 13th to 16th-NOMA FEST-NOMA and Heartland of America Park-James Alexander and the Bar-Kays are coming to NOMA Fest, which will take place August 13–16 at North Omaha Music and Arts and Heartland of America Park. The Bar-Kays have played soul, funk, and electro across the decades, scoring hits in the ’60s, ’70s, and ’80s, including one of my favorites, “Soul Finger.” Other classics include “Hit and Run,” “Freakshow on the Dance Floor,” and “Son of Shaft.”
Other performers include MonoNeon, the experimental bassist who was the last bassist Prince hired before his passing. His 2024 album Quilted Stereo features George Clinton and Mavis Staples. I saw him at a festival in Iowa about five years ago, and he was an absolute blast.
Trumpeter Keyon Harrold will also perform. He has played on tracks by 50 Cent, Maxwell, Mac Miller, and many others. He also releases his own solo work, including 2024’s Foreverland on Concord Jazz.
This event is a fundraiser for North Omaha Music and Arts, but I believe it’s free to attend, at least it has been in previous years.
August 18th-Tori Amos-Orpheum-I was a latecomer to Tori Amos’ music. If we’re being honest, I disliked her greatly when I was younger. I did come around, though, and when she came to the Orpheum a few years ago, I attended and was won over even more. What a magical night, she’s such an engaging, genuine, and fascinating performer to experience.
She will return to Omaha on August 18th at the Orpheum. She’ll also has a new album, In Times of Dragons, which I like a lot. Opening the show will be Bartees Strange, who owes us a show after canceling his Maha performance some years back.
August 18th-Jesse Welles and Ratboy-Jesse Welles has put out a lot of music in the last fifteen years. Eight albums as Jeh Sea Wells, five albums as Welles, and eight (I think nine is coming) as Jesse Welles, including six in 2025. There are also singles and one offs such as the song “No Kings” with Joan Baez that came out in December. Welles has become one of the biggest folk acts on the circuit and sells out pretty much everywhere he plays. The protest singer will be at Steelhouse Omaha on August 18th with Ratboys. We will get to see Ratboys twice this year! They have an album of the year contender out right now called Singin’ to an Empty Chair.
August 20th-Ward Davis-Reverb Lounge-Country singer Ward Davis usually plays out at Buck’s Bar and Grill, and usually over the course of many nights. It looks like he will be doing Reverb Lounge this time through on his solo acoustic tour. He just released his new album Here I Am in February.
August 20th-Kara-Lis Coverdale-Live at the Low End-Bemis Center-From the Bemis Center Website-Kara-Lis Coverdale is known for her musical innovations at the intersection of experimental electronics and minimalist traditions. Coverdale’s releases have garnered acclaim for their deep exploration of timbre. This year’s trilogy of albums released by Smalltown Supersound are Coverdale’s first major new works since Grafts (2017), Aftertouches (2015, Sacred Phrases), and A 480 (2014, Constellation Tatsu).
August 20th-Beach Bunny-Slowdown-Beach Bunny finally returns to Omaha. The Chicago band played the Maha Festival back in 2019 on the sold‑out Lizzo day. They then played a sold‑out show at Waiting Room in 2022, and considering Chicago bands route through Omaha frequently, it is surprising that it has taken four years to get them back here. The band just released their Tunnel Vision album in 2025.
August 27th-G. Love and Special Sauce-Waiting Room-G. Love and Special Sauce have had a long career. In 1994 you heard “Cold Beverages” everywhere, then we got Philadelphonic and “Rodeo Clown” and launching Jack Johnson. In 2006 he did one of two solo albums, Lemonade, and had another hit with Jack Johnson called “Rainbow.” The last time we saw G. Love in our area was at Liberty First Credit Union Arena with Dirty Heads a few years back. He will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of that Lemonade album at Waiting Room on August 27th.
August 28th-Ray Lamontagne-Holland Performing Arts Center-Singer-songwriter Ray Lamontagne will take his very popular 20 year old album Trouble out on the road. He has done a lot of great work since then, but this album is the one people still gravitate to. I saw the original tour for this album. Damn. This show was originally scheduled for one year ago, but was bumped a year.
August 29th-The EMCSHO EXPERIENCE-Benson Theater-EMCSHO was one half of the Omaha duo Wakanda One. Last year he released his debut EP called Love on Sunset about a trip he made to The Grammy’s and a lot of feelings of belonging that went along with it. I did an interview with him about this last year in The Reader. You can check that out HERE. He will be at Benson Theater on August 29th.
August 29th-Paul Cauthen-Bourbon Theater-Country artist Paul Cauthen sure likes Nebraska, or he just tours so much he has to spend time here often. Either way, he just did a string of sold‑out shows at Bucks Bar and Grill, and now we head to a bigger stage in Lincoln on August 29th for a show at Bourbon Theater.
August 30th-Kimmi Bitter-Bucks Bar and Grill-California throwback country songwriter Kimmi Bitter will be back at Buck’s for a 2PM matinee show. She will also be bringing along her brand new album that is out in a couple weeks called Bittersweet. I cannot wait to hear it and the songs live. She is a must see!
